Marketing And Product Information

1.Introduction
a. The Oil Palm Fiber Particle-board or OPFPB is produced from the Empty Fruit Bunches or EFB which is a waste in the oil palm milling process.OPFPB is normally disposed by burning or incineration resulting in emission green house gases.
b. Using 100% EFB as raw material it saves the world from felling of trees AND the elimination of the burning of EFB helps in avoidance of CO2 emission hence making the OPFPB a TRULY green product.

2.Unique physical properties
a. OPFPB though technically a particle-board by virtue of its production technology it exhibits some unique properties resemble to that of plywood and MDF.
b. It exhibits uniform strength and stability due to its evenly distributed but randomly interwoven fibers.
c. It is a good structural board with good tensile strength and superior "crew-holding" properties and bapable of being curved by heat.
d. It is 100% environmental friendly.

3.Applications and markets
3.1 OPFPB
a. OPFPB is extensively used in furniture components making as a structural board in replacing plywood for indoor use.
b. The components can be heat curved to required curvatures.
c. It is practical, cost effective, convenient to handle and can be tailored to meet all sizes and shapes.
d. The lower density OPFPB is also produced to substitute soft board/corrugated paper board as door inserts or mats in door making.
3.2 Palm Fiber
a.It is worthy to note that the EFB fiber has more uses than just in OPFPB making.
b.It is also a good raw material for making of pulp and paper suitable for corrugated carton boxes using the non polluting Semi Chemical-Mechanical process.
c.Molded products such as packaging container for food and electronic products are also made from the mechanically processed pulp from the fibers or even just from the refined dry fiber.
d.The dry fiber particles are also used to make molded products as replacement for the plastic components in the car panel.

4.Technology and production capacity
a. The EFB is shredded into fine fibers of required sizes, blended with urea formaldehyde as adhesive and reconstituted into boards of 4 ft x 8ft dimensions and various thicknesses by a hot-press at the temperature of about 140degree C.
b. The OPFPB basically meets the quality specifications as required by the standards of Particle-board Industry with E1 or E2 emissions.
c. The density of PFPB ranges from 400 to 800 kg/m3 ;
- Higher density ¨C 700 to 800 Kg/m3 as structural board for furniture and components.
- Lower density ¨C 400-500 Kg/m3 as 'soft-boards' for door insert
d.The current plant production capacity is 50 m3 per day

5.Limitations - if used as "surface" board for furniture..
a. The fiber particles are coarser than that of MDF
b. The edge and surface are 'rough' after sanding
c. It may not be suitable for thin paper lamination, edge profiling, finger joints making or V- grooving due to its coarse 'texture'.
d. It absorbs more paint/coatings.

6.Market and Pricing
a. OPFPB is currently sold to local buyers in Malaysian only.
b. Export market has not been established due to low volume of production and little awareness of this new product in oversea markets.
c. The regular thickness of PFPB produced is 12mm and 15mm.
d. The selling price of ONE piece of 4ft x 8ft OPFPB on Ex Factory basis is Rm23 and Rm26 respectively for 12mm and 15mm.
e. The selling price of Palm Fiber ranges from RM400 to RM600 per MT Ex-Factory basis depending on the lingth and dryness requirement.
